Oxfordshire County Council - Target areas
In 2005-06, Oxfordshire County Council's County Ecologist, Craig Blackwell commissioned Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC) to define and map key target areas for nature conservation action within Oxfordshire, called Conservation Target Areas. The aim of this project was to identify and map the most important areas for wildlife conservation, within recognised Landscape Description Units, where targeted conservation action will have the greatest benefit. Subsequent targeted conservation work within these areas will restore biodiversity and landscape through the restoration and management of habitats.
Partnership working in Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire Nature Conservation Forum was set up as an independent organisation in 1993 to create a united platform for wildlife conservation in Oxfordshire. As far as we know it is still the only independent forum of its kind in the UK. Today, it is an innovative and expanding partnership of 60 conservation organisations, farming bodies, environmental and recreational interests and local authorities. Natural England and others see it as an innovative leader in its field - giving Oxfordshire's environmental groups a competitive edge in bidding for resources.
