Mineral Planning Guidance 7
This is the key national policy document paper on mineral site restoration. It includes nature conservation as one possible end-use of mineral sites, and points out that habitat creation on mineral sites could contribute to BAP targets. please see Communities and Local Government website for further information.
Planning Policy Statement 9
In particular paragraph 5 (page 00):
"Local development frameworks should:
(ii) identify any areas or sites for the restoration or creation of new priority habitats which contribute to regional targets, and support this restoration or creation through appropriate policies."
